Precision CNC Machining for a Better Fit: Our Patent-Pending "2nd Generation" Wrench Design

Our patent-pending "2nd Generation" wrench design is manufactured using precision CNC machining, unlike the more common forging or casting methods used by others. While casting or forging is less expensive, the tolerance is much larger, often resulting in oversized wrenches and a loose fit that can cause rounding of the cap.

With CNC machining, we can maintain the size of the wrench to within 0.001" or better, which is a much tighter tolerance than casting or forging. We have also sized them to account for the thermal expansion of the cap (which can be significant), ensuring an ideal fit when the engine is still warm. They will be slightly loose when used on a cold engine, but not enough to slip, as we have tested this extensively.

This "2nd Gen" 86.6mm 16 flute oil filter wrench is compatible with all BMW engines that use a smooth-top oil filter cap. It is also compatible with most Volvo engines that use a smooth-top oil filter cap (except 2014-2021 Volvo 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engines).

This oil filter wrench is proudly made in the USA using materials sourced in the USA. The body of the wrench is precision CNC machined from 6061 T6 aluminum and anodized in gunmetal grey, while the drive hub uses 7075 T6 aluminum and is anodized red.

The wrench can be operated using a 3/8" ratchet or with a 24mm / 15/16" socket or wrench, providing versatility for professional technicians and DIY enthusiasts alike.

High-Quality Machined Aluminum Construction

This oil filter wrench is made using high-quality materials sourced in the US. Our patent-pending design uses two types of aluminum: 6061 for the body (the grey part) and 7075 for the drive hub (the red part). 7075 aluminum is typically used in the aircraft industry and has properties similar to steel, ensuring the wrench will not yield (deform) when the ratchet is rotated, even on the tightest oil filter caps.
